ABBEY TERRACE, WHITBY

The last time a re-roof was carried out on the property, the original slates were replaced with concrete tiles. These tiles are inappropriate for the timber construction due to extra weight so these needed to be removed and replaced with slates as originally designed.

The roof coverings were removed and all timber treated with a triple action wood treatment. A breather membrane and iko eaves protection installed. Premium quality Spanish slates were used that have a 100 year guarantee. By using slate and slate halfs we avoided making small cuts and installed using a copper nail and slate hook system to prevent storm damage, particularly in exposed locations.

All the leadwork was replaced and installed using welded joints. The Dormers had remedial works with tops and sides being removed and insulated. The tops were finished in GRP and the sides were boarded and clad. The side with two dormers was replaced with one larger dormer, maximising head height internally and creating less future maintenance externally.

The project was finished off with a bespoke design in Weber render leaving the customer with a high quality finish that will withstand the harsh environment for years to come.
