SPRINGVALE EXTENSION

Renovation – Springvale, Whitby

This Victorian home, dating back to the 1880s, has undergone a remarkable transformation with the addition of a bespoke single-storey extension and a beautifully crafted walled garden. Every detail of the extension has been carefully considered, seamlessly blending modern design with subtle nods to the home’s Victorian heritage. The result is a space that enhances the property’s character while providing a timeless, functional addition for contemporary living.

The garage that was poorly built in the 1990s using modern brick was removed to make way for a beautifully enclosed walled courtyard garden, complete with raised planters crafted from reclaimed brick. A bespoke covered seating area adds charm and functionality, creating a perfect space for outdoor relaxation and entertaining.

Internally, the extension has introduced a spacious, light-filled kitchen and dining area, painted in Farrow & Ball’s Dead Flat Breakfast Room Green, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. This is complemented by a newly installed utility room, fitted with Howden’s cabinetry and wall panelling finished in Farrow & Ball Pitch Black Modern Eggshell, providing both function and visual interest. The utility space acts as a practical thoroughfare, featuring intricately patterned contrasting floor tiles and discreet pocket doors leading to a bespoke downstairs toilet. The WC includes a custom sink unit with handcrafted timber by J Hallam Joinery, and is finished in Detale CPH concrete-effect textured paint—adding a unique element to the design.

Large sliding doors open directly from the dining area into the garden, seamlessly connecting indoor and outdoor living, while a striking Korniche roof lantern floods the space with natural light.

The kitchen is a standout feature — finished in a timeless green by 3 Ways Kitchens, it’s paired with characterful pink tiles, brick slips, and solid oak worktops for a warm and stylish look that blends classic and contemporary elements.
