THE LITTLE YELLOW COTTAGE -GRADE 2 RENOVATION

The Little Yellow Cottage – Property Renovation

This prominent Grade II listed, harbourside cottage was in a state of disrepair and needed some love and life putting back into it, whilst adhering to conservation principles throughout.

Beginning with replacement of the roof and rainwater goods, attention then turned to the inside. Internal walls had previously been covered in concrete so this was removed, the walls then being plastered using a traditional lime-based plaster bound by animal hair, allowing the walls to breathe to preserve the brickwork underneath and facilitate healthy living conditions.

With a careful, conservation led approach, our tradespeople removed a 1970s fireplace to uncover the original sandstone fireplace that was conserved and repaired where necessary using reclaimed bricks. A traditional stove was installed to complement the work.
A conservation led approach was also taken to floor repairs. Where old joists and planks survived and were in sound condition, they were conserved and continue to fulfil their original purpose.

Materials for this project were carefully sourced to ensure a sympathetic project that not only preserved, but also enhanced the significance of the building by revealing formerly hidden features.

The restoration of The Little Yellow Cottage was a combined effort of lots of local tradespeople. You can read the full story at – https://thelittleyellowcottage.com
