Heritage and Conservation Work
We have extensive experience working with heritage assets and within conservation areas, where a sensitive and informed approach is essential.
The historic town of Whitby, together with its surrounding settlements, countryside, and the North York Moors National Park, is rich in architectural heritage and home to numerous listed buildings. To support renovation, repair, or alteration projects in these sensitive locations, we provide a comprehensive built heritage consultancy and planning service where, with accredited conservation expertise, we can produce and submit applications for listed building consent and planning applications, streamlining the process for our clients.
Our team specialises in the use of traditional lime mortars, lime renders, hot lime plasters, and lime pointing techniques, as well as traditional lead work. These heritage building skills are essential for the proper conservation of historic structures. Unlike modern cement-based products, lime mortars and renders allow older buildings to breathe, manage moisture, and perform as originally intended.
By combining expert craftsmanship with an in-depth understanding of traditional materials, we ensure that historic and listed buildings not only meet conservation requirements but also remain structurally sound and sustainable for future generations
